One-Act Play Contest Submission Guidelines

** The Deadline for Submissions is December 30, 2009 **

• Submissions must be original, unproduced and unpublished one act length plays–25 minutes to 40 minutes in length. Plays may have received previous workshop readings, but it is preferred that this be the World premiere production of the work. Legal clearance of ALL materials not in the public domain are the full responsibility of the playwright.
  
  
• No limit to number of plays submitted, but only one play per author will be chosen.
  
  
• All submissions are judged blind. Please include all pertinent contact information on the on the cover sheet. There should be no identifying information within the script itself except the title. Playwright must provide a letter giving Vagabond Acting Troupe right to produce the work free of all royalties (top winner receives a $200 royalty/cash prize, second place winner receives a $50 royalty/cash prize).
  
  
• Scripts will not be returned. We prefer digital submission to reduce paper usage.
  
  
• Minimum Length: 15 pages. Maximum Length: 35 pages. Running time MUST NOT exceed 45 minutes in length and run AT LEAST 15 minutes – so if your piece includes extra dense sections (monologues, songs), please keep that in mind when submitting play. Any style (children’s, musicals, drama, comedy, etc.) and any topic welcome, but be aware that Vagabond Acting Troupe employs a highly physical style. • If submitted via hard copy - Plays must be typed/word-processed, numbered, & securely bound in a (preferably soft) cover, in standard professional play format. Write to Samuel French Inc. for their format guidelines, or copy from www.vcu.edu/artweb/playwriting/format.html on the Internet.
  
  
• Production criteria include scripts requiring minimal technical support for a - 50-seat theatre and small casts of characters (no more than seven characters) with an age range of 20 through 50 preferred. Sets MUST be minimal. Production set change over will need to occur rapidly between one acts. AT LEAST two one acts will be produced.
  
  
• Submission fee: NONE. Playwrights may submit up to two plays, though only one play by any author will be chosen for production.
  
  
• By submitting a play for consideration, playwright agrees that Vagabond Acting Troupe has the right to produce the play with no royalty payment. First place and 2nd Place winners will receive royalty fee as noted above, honorable mention productions MAY be produced without royalty.
  
  
• All submissions will be handled with care. However, Vagabond Acting Troupe assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged scripts.
  
  
• Submit scripts digitally at: vagabondactingtroupe@gmail.com OR send five hard copies to: ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL, Vagabond Acting Troupe, PA 19543-0355. Please see #5 for information on cover page. Please include a letter giving Vagabond Acting Troupe permission to stage your piece without royalty as part of an evening of new works which will be presented in 2009. Please note in the statement that all material in the play is in the public within your right to provide performance clearance.
  
  
• Deadline for ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL submissions: December 30, 2009.
